5 Tips for Choosing the Right Venue

I love every wedding I get the honor of photographing. I do have to admit, having the right venue makes a big difference in your wedding photography. No matter where you choose, your pictures will be beautiful. However, here are a few tips so you can select a venue that will make your wedding day vision a reality.

1. Look for bright, open spaces.

If you are in love with bright and airy photographs, make sure your venue looks that way in real life! Your photographer will make the pictures fabulous no matter what, but unfortunately no photographer can turn a dark brown room in a basement into a brightly lit white bridal suite.

2. Talk to the vendor, and see if there are any rules.

Many venues have specific rules on where the photographer can go and if they are allowed to use their flash. Depending on the rules of your venue, it may limit some aspects of the photographer’s ability to do their job. If you want that amazing first kiss shot, make sure your photographer is allowed in the aisle!

3. Is there a back-up plan?

I’m a sucker for outdoor weddings. I love nature & I think they provide the perfect romantic backdrop… But what does the venue do when it rains? We were lucky the day of this wedding, but the venue had a large white tent set up just incase. It is such a relief knowing that their is a solid (and pretty) back-up plan if Mother Nature chooses not to cooperate.

4. Does the venue offer options for your grand finale exit?

If you are someone who dreams of riding off on a horse-drawn carriage or having your friends and family cheer for you during an evening sparkler exit, make sure your venue is capable of supporting that dream!

5. Find something that feels right, and enjoy your big day!

Let’s be serious. No matter what, your wedding day is going to be amazing. You get to spend day surrounded by people you love. Find a place that knocks off most of the points on your list, but don’t stress over what you can’t control.
